April 26 - 28 and May 3-5 2013 - Goose Pond Scout Reservation

Great Medicine, the National Youth Leadership Training Conference, is a two-weekend training for youth leaders developed by the Boy Scouts of America and offered by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council. The conference is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth with 21st century leadership skills and experiences they can use in their home troops, crews and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. Scoutmasters and Crew Advisers are encouraged to provide opportunities within their units for application and use of the leadership training learned at the conference so that the Scout applies the skills he or she learns during the conference. Great Medicine is conducted by a staff of top-level, Scouts and Leaders selected by the Council Training Committee. Due to course dynamics, full attendance at both weekends is required for course completion.

Great Medicine is not just a camping trip, but an intense, challenging, leadership experience.

Powder Horn

Powder Horn - September 5 – 8, 2013
The Powder Horn course is designed to expose older youth and adult leaders in BSA to safely conduct outdoor/high adventure activities of a fun and challenging nature. It provides an introduction to the resources needed to successfully lead their crews and troops through a program of outdoor adventure.
The course is based upon giving participants an exposure to some outdoor/high adventure activities and not a certification event. It is for any youth or adult interested in experiencing a unit-level high adventure program.
For more information on the course or to register visit the official course website at http://ph2013.nepabsa.org/

Kodiak

The Kodiak course combines the elements of leadership and service to others as the two key tenets of Venturing. Servant leadership is a philosophy that teaches the leader to work with and through a team to accomplish the mission.
Kodiak's methods are the following: Challenging outdoor treks to use nature as a classroom (no indoor sessions). Five leadership skills, called "commissions," are taught. They can be offered over a week, or over two weekends. It uses a hands-on teaching approach with very short presentations.

ILSC

The purpose of the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews course is to teach crew members with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Venturers in leadership positions within their crew understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Venturers and is a replacement for the Venturing Leadership Skills Course. Completion of Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews is a prerequisite for Venturers to participate in the more advanced leadership courses National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE). It is also required for Kodiak.

NAYLE

The National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) is offered originally by the Philmont Training Center of the Boy Scouts of America and is now offered as regional courses. It is a week-long, high-adventure, backcountry leadership development experience for boys and girls 14–20 years old. This training is an element of the Youth Leadership Training Continuum.
NAYLE is intended for graduates of National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). It includes more experiences in team building and ethical decision making. The wilderness-based, challenging program based at Rocky Mountain Scout Camp and now regional camps such as Onteora Scout Reservation in Livingston Manor, NY, incorporates some portions of the Philmont Ranger Training and advanced search and rescue training as a means to teach leadership, teamwork and servant leadership. This training is an element of the overall leadership training program.
The program promises a number of subjective outcomes focusing on an individual's perspective, opinion, and feelings, including "growing self-awareness, growing self-confidence, growing creativity, the happiness from helping others succeed, understanding that everyone is a leader, everyone in the group contributes in a significant way to team success, knowing leadership is a way of life."

The program's goals are to:

Encourage others to a life of leadership service
Act as a servant leader who shares the skills of NYLT and helps develop other leaders through their enhanced understanding of the material
Intuitively use the leadership skills in all aspects of their lives
Be an advocate for TLT and NYLT in their local environment
Use positive reinforcement to help others do their best

NAYLE is designed to equip participants with the skills to return to their local council and serve as staff on their local NYLT course, as summer camp staff, and as better troop leaders. NAYLE is designed to teach participants servant leadership skills in Scouting and for later life so they can "lead for the good of others."
Requirements for attending the program have been loosened since 2008. Attendees formerly had to be approved by their Council Executive, and now must meet only these qualifications:

Be a graduate of their home unit's leadership training program (either Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops or its Venturing equivalent, Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews and have completed National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).
Be in good physical condition (Parts A, B, C, and D of the BSA Annual Health and Medical Record is required).
Be at least 14 years of age by the first day of the program (and less than 20 years old).
Currently hold a leadership position in their home unit.
