Council News

Attention All Unit Leaders!
There are two new developments that will affect your unit!

Youth Protection

Effective September 1, 2017, all new leader applications and disclosure forms being turned in must now include a copy of their Youth Protection Training certificate. If a copy of their Youth Protection Training certificate is not included, their application will not be accepted. There will no longer be a 30 day grace period for taking Youth Protection Training.

All currently registered leaders or previously registered leaders that are turning in applications & disclosure forms for new positions must be current in Youth Protection Training as well.

Each units Key 3 has access to a Youth Protection Training aging report through by going to the Training Manager page. This report will give you the information that is needed to keep your unit leadership up to date with Youth Protection Training.  It is important that all unit leadership have current Youth Protection Training at the time of recharter, or there will be a delay in processing.

Registration Fees

Effective December 1, 2017, the annual membership fee for both youth and adult membership fees will increase to $33 per year. The $1.00 per registered member for accident insurance is also collected at re-charter time. This increase is due to the number and the size of claims made against the General Liability Insurance Plan (GLIP).  As a movement, we are self-insured, so every time there is claim or litigation the GLIP takes a hit.

The timing of this is not good due to many Cub Scout Packs just starting the process of recruiting new members and many units completed their budgeting and planning over the summer.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but continuing to protect our charter partners, Scouts, leaders, parents and staff has to be done.
