Council News

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Council is pleased to announce that the Council achieved JTE SILVER status for 2016.

With the help of all our volunteers and staff we had many successes in 2016 that we can all be proud of:

  • Our camping numbers continue to be outstanding! Due to multiple camping opportunities for Cub Scouts, 117% or our Cub Scouts had a long-term camping experience and nearly 60% of our Boy Scouts had a long term camp experience.
  • Over 99% of our adult leaders are current on their youth protection training!
  • With your help, we recruited 30% MORE Cub Scouts in 2016 than in 2015, bringing in new boys to the Scouting program!
  • We had over 100 Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout
  • We had a growth in our Exploring Program of 14%
  • Our Order of the Arrow Lodge, again achieved GOLD JTE status and contributed countless hours into our camps and numerous Scout programs throughout the year.
  • With great Board Leadership, we ended 2016 in a strong finical position and a balanced budget.

Looking ahead to 2017 we are focused on

  • Improving our percentage of fully trained leaders. Quality programs for our youth come from fully trained leaders!
  • Improvement of our direct funding to be not so dependent on one or two events. Our Friends of Scouting campaign is off to a tremendous start and we have new excitement for our fall popcorn sale.
  • Long Range plans for both our camp properties will be developed with input from all the stakeholders in order to prepare for a capital campaign in 2018. Our camps will soon turn 100  years old and we need to plan for the next century of Scouting.
